Mrs. Junel first taught my two older sisters, then looked after me in Junior High. She asked me several years to help her decorate her school room before the season started. She paid me even!
I visited her home after her retirement (about the early 1980's). She still worked with kids. She talked about taking a group to visit Verner Von Braun, the father of American Rocketry! I know because I did my high school history research paper on his professional life. She said I would be a good teacher. I hope she's watching now.

When I was in high school, I was very fortunate to have a science and math teacher who was a retired computer programmer for the aerospace industry. Mr. Bryant W. Saxon taught me to solve problems, not memorize formulae.

McLuhan published his book , Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man in 1964. In it he used the line, "The medium is the massage" but was most often quoted as saying, "The medium is the message." The later lead a whole generation of media "artists" to obsess over technologies rather than understanding it's context in society and it's specific effects on individual cognition. Even more important than questioning which quote is true, is realising that both are true. In a more important context, is the question of "how" both can be true. It's a Zen thing!
