The presence of electronic communications media throughout all segments of our global society continues to grow by leaps and bounds. What was once regarded in the private sector as a lavish electronic plaything is now viewed on bottom line business terms as a strategic asset and competitive tool.
As part of its mission, The Webb Foundation fosters an understanding of this technology by offering grants, scholarships, videoconferences and publications to educate industry professionals as well as those new to the industry and those with no knowledge of electronic communications media.
Professional Development Grants
Each year, the Foundation offers Professional Development Scholarship Grants to help qualified professionals maintain their competitive edge. Scholarship grants are awarded to assist with tuition at recognized and reputable institutes and seminar programs. Qualified candidates are required to have a minimum number of year's professional experience and must articulate the expected benefits of the training received. In addition, they are required to submit a follow-up report after attending classes or seminars. In 2003, the Professional Development grants included 3-day tuitions at any of the courses offered by the prestigious Sony Training Institute in San Jose, CA.
Fredrick M. Wehrli Educational Scholarship Fund
In 2000, an educational scholarship fund to support college and university students in their quest for excellence in the field of electronic communications media was established. The fund was named in honor of Fred Wehrli, the Foundation's executive director, who passed away during that year. Once it is endowed, the fund will support scholarships for students in their sophomore year that meet grade point and family income levels.
New Media Seminar SeriesTM
Since 1992 the Foundation has produced national satellite broadcast education programs for communications media professionals and students. Each New Media Seminar SeriesÔ broadcast brings together a panel of industry experts for in-depth discussion and analysis of the latest media technologies and trends.
Publications
The Webb Foundation has just begun to offer publications with the debut of its major research study Dynamic Media in Transition. Added to the publications list is the standard Effectiveness of Video in Organizations: An Annotated Bibliography, originally published by the ITVA Foundation in 1995, which is available on disc.
